[FIXED] Unable to restore Objects in Objects OpenSim

Postby nibeck on Fri Feb 27, 2009 4:03 pm

Thank you for a wonderful product...

i am having a problem restoring to OpenSim, Objects within Objects are not transfering.

I am running 0.6.1.8108 but I have also tried it at myopengrid.com who is running latest svn, he is also having the same problem.

I ran into another with the same prob as well.

The backup is working fine and you can take the objects apart and put them back together.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I know there are others with this problem.... can anyone else weigh in please... Does anyone have objects in objects restoring in opensim? I was thinking this is the first place to start. Am I doing something wrong?

THanks!

What do you exactly mean with doesn't work? Can you provide us more details?

If the nested prims is no transferable and it wasn't created by an avatar present in your avatar list you cannot restore it.

I have experienced this as well. In fact just a couple minutes ago... but at other times too.

When I backup from SL (full perm) it goes through the motions of backing up the top level objects (textures, scripts, etc) and digging through nested prims... and appears to have backed up the object as I would expect. However, When restoring to OpenSim it only uploads the textures, scripts, etc. at the top level... but NONE of the nested prims or their nested content.

Maybe I am doing something wrong. I have tried it with standard and advanced uploads. With single nested, and multi-nested objects... nothing seems to go right.

The only thing I have found to do is backup the nested objects one by one.... by hand... a.k.a. a-major-pain-in-the-....

Hello arluthier, welcome on the forum :)

I don't think it was the same issue nibeck was asking about, anyway, the problem reported by you is not a bug is just a missing feature. The Nested prim restore will be released with the 1.2.0.9, until then, you can backup the nested prim and when you want to restore its children you can follow these steps:

1) Open the Root prim from the RL Inventory
2) Go on the Tab 'Content' and locate the children
3) Open the nested children double clicking on them
4) Restore them as usual

I know it's just a work around but don't worry the next release of SI is on the way.

I too, am seeing this.. running Opensim 0.6.3.8836, backed up several full-perm items from SL with the sole intention of migrating them to my standalone sandbox running the above version of Opensim. The items back up in SL fine, I logout/login to SI/Opensim, start the advanced restore, it tells me it completed successfully. I go to the sim inventory tab while still logged on to my Opensim, it shows the items are there.. I log out of SI/Opensim, login to Opensim with my viewer, and the objects that were visible in the SI online inventory window are not there now. All the textures that were uploaded for the items are in the SL_restore folder... Since most of the things I'd REALLY like to backup locally, I can't due to their being no-copy/no-trans, the ONLY reason I bought SI was to be able to transfer stuff I build in SL to Opensim and vice-versa....

Tas again, with an update... The items I was trying to transfer from SL to Opensim was a dj booth I built in SL with quite a few scripts/animations all of which I had full perms to...

Tas, it's an Opensim known issue, afaik it should have been fixed in the trunk version of Opensim.

I can't wait for this feature to be completed! I was misled when the documentation said "can back up nested prims" I assumed that included restore. It is semantics and word-meanings, I admit, but still... if it is only a one way transfer ... nested prims -> HD, but not the other way, that is rather useless. Surely we want HD -> nested prims to happen too. I was pulling hair out like the man pictured on the web site (there is none left!) why my full-permissions MCT items were not restoring, and not appearing in the "content eligible for upload".

I see now the workaround in this forum, to do each item in Content one by one, and agree this is a major pain. Please please handle nested prims both ways, before claiming to "support nested prims" - it should read "PARTIALLY support nested prims" :)

Disappointed, but hopeful for next version! :)
